rant: subscription services

now, here's something i've been really pissed off about for a long time: subscription services.

 

they come in many kinds: online gaming, software, working out, and even instant messaging. i'll be talking about all of them. there's probably more bullshit examples i haven't found out about, but at this point, i don't think i'd want to know.

 

there is no reason for me to have to pay $52/month just so i can use all of the adobe software with creative cloud, when i can either acquire the older versions and/or pirate them. people should be able to own their software without having to pay monthly for it, regardless of what it is.

 

also, gym memberships. i can easily buy an elliptical, set it up for an hour (fuck you niceday for misleading advertising), and use it to my heart's desire. if i can buy the same shit for working out that can be used by myself without having to worry about being around people that might kick my ass, why bother? i understand that not everyone has the money to buy gym equipment for their home, but running outside is free at that.

 

funny thing is that both adobe creative cloud and gym memberships are hard to cancel (or at least they were), because they either make you go through a lengthy process to cancel the membership, or they flatout force you to pay $100 to cancel.

 

also, fuck microsoft. i could actually go on about them for ages, but there's one thing i hated so much that i can't get out of my head like a .357: xbox live. so, you're telling me that i could play online for free on both ps3 and wii (also let's not forget pc), but not on the xbox 360? bullshit. we know xbox does nothing to support why you should pay fucking $60/year on xbox live, because microsoft does absolutely nothing good for its userbase in turn (albeit other companies don't either way lmao).

 

so yeah. fuck subscriptions. i would rather twist my own head off than have to pay for one of them ever again.
