closing 24/7

i have a bit of an odd question: why the fuck are 24 hour stores disappearing left and right?

i am well aware of the current events that have happened in the past 5 years. i know that there was a virus that just so happened to not be a "big deal to most people" now than the government and media made it out to be at the time. however, that shouldn't be an excuse as to why now i can't find a 24/7 place that isn't a diner. don't get me wrong. i love diners. i think they're badass. though, i do want some more options. after all, people that work night shifts exist (not exactly me, but they still do, and i think those people are pretty important, and i'll get more into that later).

walmart, of all places, used to be 24/7. and in of itself, that's already something that people would especially be turned on by to go there more. yet, i'm also not in shock that they aren't. i go into a walmart now and see only 2 to 3 actual cashiers out of like 20 lines that should be open, and yet the place is even more crowded than it was before. you can't just tell me that this is another way of "cutting costs." if anything, i would think that, by having more people working at the store, you could gain profits because of the fact that now you have more people to please. but, that's just something i wanted to get out of the way first. as for being open 24/7, i think it would be beneficial to have again, because sometimes you just need to get groceries at night. maybe it's 2:30 am, and you wake up thinking "fuck, i'm really hungry, and there's nothing in my fridge that i want to cook. i could go for some steak right now."

and, that's another thing. there are also barely any 24/7 restaurants besides diners and pancake houses that cater to people. i'm sure there are people that get up at 5:00 am to get breakfast. i'd probably do the same thing, too. but, i do think it would be nice to have other options, such as anything else. as i mentioned, maybe someone could go for a steak at 2:30 am still, and it just so happened that walmart ended up in flames.

it also doesn't even have to be steak. that's just an example i came up with on the spot, because i had nothing else to think of. perhaps it could be seafood, chinese, mexican, hibachi, or even a donut shop. the last one i'm actually surprised isn't a common thing. maybe it just depends on where you live, but even still. it seems like people that work the night shift make the world keep spinning. people always say "the early bird gets the worm", but would you consider the fact that there are other birds out there working their ass off when lights are out just to keep them running?

idk man. doesn't seem right to me. i know that it isn't exactly commonplace to have 24/7 places, but the fact that in the past 5 to 10 years they've been disappearing more and more feels iffy. maybe things might change. or not. i'll never know for sure.
